Equal Opportunities Statement

It is SilverLink Care’s aim to support people with a learning disability and their families to enjoy the same rights, freedom, responsibilities, respect, choices and quality of life as people within the wider community.

We believe that everybody who is involved in the organisation in any way should be treated fairly and without prejudice.  Nobody should be subjected to harassment or be made to feel afraid at SilverLink Care or when using any of its services.  If this happens, we will do our best to put things right and we have clear systems in place to deal with any complaints or grievances that are raised in relation equal opportunities.

We do not want anybody to be treated unfairly because of their race, colour, nationality, religion or belief, age, gender, sexual orientation or gender re-assignment, because they are disabled, if they are married or in a civil partnership, if they are an expectant mother or they have children to look after. This applies to people who use our services and the people who work for us.

  1. Our Services

We will do our best to see that people who need our services have a fair chance to access them.  We will also try to develop services for individuals or groups who suffer special disadvantages and try to ensure our services meet the needs of groups within our local community.

  • Staff

We will do our best to see that anyone who works for us or who applies for a job with us is not unfairly disadvantaged due to any reason relating to any individual characteristic as listed above.  The way we select people to work for us is regularly reviewed and is monitored to ensure that the person who is chosen is the person that we believe can best do the job.  All staff will be given fair chances for training, development and promotion.

  • Fair Treatment

If we find that any group or individual does not seem to be getting fair treatment, we will address this in line with our disciplinary, grievance, whistleblowing and complaints procedures and in line with our code of conduct. Issues may also be raised with relevant sub committees and appropriate action will be taken to remedy or improve any issues that come to our attention.

  • Complaints

If anyone feels that they have been unfairly treated for any of the reasons above, they should use SilverLink Care’s complaints procedure to get things sorted out.  An accessible version of the Complaints procedure is available for all members to access at SilverLink Care’s premises and a copy is also available on our website.

It is possible that we may be able to provide translation of policies and procedures if required.

  • Review

The personnel Committee will ensure that Equal Opportunities statement and policy are updated and monitored as required. When changes are made to these documents staff members will have the opportunity to give comments and feedback through their team meetings. Our members will be given the opportunity to give comments and feedback through their relevant sub committees.

The Executive Committee will receive an annual update in relation to the management of and any proposed changes to equal opportunities policies at SilverLink Care. Sub committees will also feedback any issues or relevant proposed changes to the Executive Committee through the personnel committee or through their appointed Trustee representative.

Any decisions made about Equal Opportunities will be passed to all staff and sub committees for information and comment.  Our Equal Opportunities Statement will be made available on our website and on noticeboards at SilverLink Care premises.
